Introducing the First Electrically Powered Crafter

Volkswagen have just revealed the all-new e-Crafter, the first fully electric Crafter van. A rapid rollout is expected with models hitting the roads during 2017.

About the New e-Crafter

The new e-Crafter, premiered at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover, displays the latest in zero emission vehicles for the road. The concept provides an environmentally friendly solution for city centre delivery traffic and beyond thanks to a customisable battery setup. The e-Crafter is near production ready, with Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles explaining "The first e-Crafter vehicles will already be in customers' hands by 2017". The e-Crafter boasts the same robust design previous Crafter models have enjoyed, whilst also sharing the same outstanding cargo capacity. The vehicle's battery pack is made up of 312 cells totalling a capacity of 43 kilowatt hours, this equates to a range of more than 120 miles. The battery setup is flexible as the e-Crafter can be configured with future battery developments therefore allowing customisable ranges. The flexible nature of the battery setup in the e-Crafter expands the potential range of applications far beyond city centre logistics, creating a viable option for an increasing number of businesses.

Why Choose the e-Crafter?

Aside from the reduced impact on global warming and minimised environmental impact, the e-Crafter offers a silent, sustainable option for businesses requiring use of a van. Owing to the flexible nature of the battery setup, the vehicle range can be customised to a range of up to 250 miles. The cargo space displays complete flexibility with the presence of the ProSafe load-lashing system, Flex-Rack setup and the Globelyst shelving system. The e-Crafter offers businesses an option towards removing the increasing cost of fuel, whilst maintaining an efficient and reliable service to customers.
