New Volkswagen Grand California Reveal
Volkswagen have lifted the lid off their new Grand California Camper ahead of its official debut at the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon later this month.
Having been previously code named the ‘California XXL’, the German giants have confirmed that the large camper will don the name of the ‘Grand California’, and will sit at the top of the line-up ahead of the California Beach and California Ocean.
Those looking to get a closer look at the Camper will be able to view it at the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon which runs from 24th August to 2nd September, when more images and information will be officially announced.
The supersize campervan uses the origins of the original Bulli camper to base itself on, however, at almost six metres in length and standing nearly three metres tall, it’s much, much larger than its 1960s predecessor. The latest addition to the California is actually considerably larger than even the standard California which is based on the smaller T6 Transporter.
Volkswagen Grand California Interior
The new Grand California is based on the Volkswagen Crafter’s chassis, but with a considerably higher roof it means that there is ample enough space for people to stand up inside. As well as enough space to stand up, there’s also a kitchen for you to cook and clean in, a large dining table with swivel chairs for you to enjoy some downtime, and a large bathroom, fitted with a toilet and shower for you stay refreshed. There’s also plenty of room for a spacious double bed, while there is also space for the kids to sleep and play. Volkswagen have done a fantastic job of ensuring the area remains an enjoyable, bright space to be by installing large skylights. Getting in and out of a campervan has never been easier thanks to the implementation of an electronically powered step. The German manufacturer has also added in a mosquito net to keep out any unwanted visitors while you can soundtrack your holiday thanks to the crisp Bluetooth Sound System.
There are plenty of additional options available. You can choose an optional bunk bed, or if you’re worried about the warmth at night, there is a roof-mounted air-conditioning unit. You can even watch your favourite shows on a satellite dish or stream them via a WiFi router should you so wish!
