So, what’s new for the 2020 VW Transporter? The T6.1 was launched in late 2019 but has only just started reaching customer in the UK in 2020. This has been seen as big news for the Transporter industry
The T6.1 facelift was launched internationally in 2019 but only began reaching UK customers in early 2020. This is the big Transporter news for this year. Although we have seen variants of this van on the roads for a while, there is still more to come from this VW, it’s also expected that the e-Transporter electric version will be released in 2020.
The T6.1 facelift is recognised well with its sharper front-end styling, featuring larger grille openings, an increased focus on horizontal lines and narrower headlines. You will also notice that a name badge now appears on the front wings next to the new headlights. They are there to make the van look more premium.
It boasts a completely new and improved dashboard which is designed to make it feel more like a car on the interior. It’s supported by some improvements to the driving experience with the option to add a multimedia infotainment system with a 9.2-inch touchscreen.
There are also a few mechanical changes that benefit the driving experience that include a new electromechanical power steering, several new safety systems, and a revised set of engines, all of them are designed to meet the latest Euro 6D-Temp emissions regulations (also known as Euro 6.2).
This is set to be the most popular model by a considerable margin. It’s usually the second bestselling medium van throughout the whole of the UK and it has a range of variants available.
Van buyers will find it hard to find a competitor that competes with the standard that is set by the Volkswagen T6.1 Transporter. You get lots of choice with a large array of model combinations available, there is always going to be transporter to suit your needs.
The T6.1 comes as the standard model and as a Kombi which has two rows of seats with a bulkhead, Shuttle minibus and a chassis cab if you want to do a conversion.
The facelift for the T6.1 VW has reduced the trim choice slightly, which offers you the Highline and Syartline being initially offered and then Trendline and the Sportline coming at a later date.
You have the choice to have both automatic and manual gearboxes and both 4Motion four-wheel drive and front-wheel drive.
The Verdict? With a winning combination from its appearance, practically and choice the VW T6.1 Transporter should be a van that definitely gets considered, the facelift for this van has only made it better. It’s a great all-rounder, and although expensive it holds its value well and is one of the best for total life vs costs in the medium van market place.
